Stray Dog is about a homicide detective lost his gun, and he found out murderers were committed by the seven bullets in his gun. He is determined to find the gun. A more experienced detective helped him to find the criminal. Compare to Rashomon, Stray Dog had a quick intro. The story started within the first line. However, audiences can easily tell that the two movies are both directed by Akira Kurosawa. Kurosawa enjoys long shots of the same scenario. In Rashomon, he spent minutes just on the first witness walking in the woods and found the body.*Spoiler* In Stray Dog, he puts a lot of effort on chasing the woman who stood right next to him on the bus, and looking for the weapon seller. Kurosawa's visual aesthetic scenes are also shown in Stray Dog. When detective finally found the lady with her mom at her apartment, the triangular relationship and development between them intertwined with pleasant visual experience. Also, characters' internal struggle is emphasized. Audiences are affected by the kindness and the darkness of the detective. Rating: 7.5/10

Shazam! is about a powerful wizard who is dying is trying to find his successor. After years and years of trying, not much time is left for him. The bad guy has released the seven deadly sins. So he chooses a foster boy Billy. Billy has just moved into a new foster home and met his roommate Freddie. To be honest, I don't expect much from a hero movie. I don't ask for deep meanings or artsy visual effect in Marvel or DC movies. Shazam! is easy, funny and carries the message of the importance of family. In my opinion, Shazam! meets my expectation. It is rated as PG13. I don't find it scary, but I do think some scenes are a bit intense for kids. I have to say Shazam! is on the edge of being boring. When Freddie and Billy was trying to figure everything out, it was very amusing but at some points, I do find the jokes are getting old. However, it moved into main storyline soon after so everything goes back on track. It is probably the only movie I'm gonna see a superhero flossing. The first part of the movie is a bit boring when it's not funny, but overall I enjoyed it very much. It's easy and funny. Just what I need before Endgame (I'm just kidding DC, but am I). The Other Boleyn Girl is an adaptation of King Henry's story with the two Boleyn sisters. The Boleyn family wants to send them and become King's lovers. When I first saw the cast, I was amazed by how impressive it is: Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson as the two Boleyn sisters, Eric Bana as King Henry Tudor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Raymond......But it's kind of a bad movie. I always enjoy royal family historical movies, such as the Dutches, the Favourite, Marie Antoinette, etc. Because you never know how messed up it can be. This movie is really messed up but because of its fast pace, it didn't sink in at all. I enjoy the emotional ups and downs in movies like this but it looks like a fast rundown of the event. There are no focal points where it lets audiences to think and feel. *Spoiler* For example, I think the contrast between how King Henry treated differently to Mary and Anne should be emphasized. The interaction between Anne and the King was barely there as well. There were a lot of foreshadowing but they didn't work as good as they thought they would be. the performance of the two sisters were outstanding and the story is intriguing. But it's a bad adaptation. Rating: 7.2/10 |
